BRAMPTON IS MULTILINGUAL

Language difference is not the same as language disorder.

Brampton families may use English alongside Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Tamil and many other languages. Multilingualism does not cause a speech or language disorder. Assessment should consider the client's real communication environment rather than English performance alone.

63.5% of Brampton residents reported knowledge of at least one non-official language in the 2021 Census.

KEEP the home language.

COMPARE communication patterns across languages where possible.

ASSESS history, exposure, family observations and functional communication.
