On Saturday, June 1, 2013, Kerry’s Place Autism Services held a wonderful workshop entitled “Social Communication Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)”. The workshop was hosted by us here at the Speech Therapy Centres of Canada in our head office (65 West Beaver Creek Rd. Richmond Hill, ON) with our Clinical Director, Jeanette Podolsky and Clinical Manager, Claudia Correia as the workshop facilitators.
The workshop was tailored to have participants step out of their own shoes and give them a glimpse into the social communication challenges that children with ASD typically face in their day-to-day lives. Also, ASD therapy techniques that can build social communication skills were shared by Jeanette and Claudia and the benefits of group therapy versus individual therapy was discussed. The presentation gave participants many real-world tips on how parents and families can help out with the development and growth of the communication and social communication skills of their children with ASD.
The workshop was a great success! We had the opportunity to share knowledge and ideas, meet new people, and build new relationships. At the Speech Therapy Centres of Canada, we believe in enjoying the best possible relationships between our company, speech pathologists, clients, and their families. We really enjoyed meeting and spending the day with all of you who attended. We hope that everyone who attended was able to gain something from the workshop.
We would like to thank Kerry’s Place Autism Services for partnering with us to provide this workshop. We would also like to thank all those who attended, all those who wanted to attend, and all of you reading this right now.
