Your Voice, Your Identity — Speech Therapy That Affirms Who You Are

For many transgender and gender-diverse individuals, finding a voice that reflects their identity is a deeply personal and empowering journey. At Speech Therapy Centre of Canada, we offer affirming, individualized voice therapy to help you safely and confidently align your voice with your gender expression.

Whether you’re looking to feminize, masculinize, or find a more androgynous voice, our trained Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) are here to support you—without judgment and at your pace.

What Is Transgender Voice Therapy?

Unlike surgery, this is a non-invasive, behavior-based therapy guided by a certified SLP. We work on:

Transgender voice therapy focuses on helping individuals modify aspects of their voice and communication style so that it aligns more closely with their gender identity.

  • Pitch and resonance (the tone and placement of your voice)
  • Speech rate and inflection
  • Breath support and projection
  • Non-verbal communication (e.g., gestures, facial expressions)
  • Confidence and communication comfort in real-life settings

What Makes Voice Feminine, Masculine, or Androgynous?

While pitch (measured in Hz) is one factor, other key elements influence how gendered a voice sounds:

  • Resonance – Chest vs. head voice balance
  • Intonation – How pitch rises and falls during speech
  • Articulation – Sharpness, clarity, and vowel length
  • Language style – Word choice, rhythm, and phrasing
  • Body language and facial expression

Our goal isn’t to force a “standard” voice—it’s to help you find the one that feels authentic to you.

What to Expect During Transgender Voice Therapy

Voice training is a gradual and supportive process. At Speech Therapy Centre of Canada, we tailor your sessions to your goals, lifestyle, and current voice use.

Typical therapy includes:

✅ Initial voice assessment and acoustic measurements
✅ Goal-setting aligned with your identity and comfort
✅ Weekly 1-on-1 voice training with vocal hygiene techniques
✅ Real-world practice (presenting, conversations, phone use)
✅ Ongoing feedback, recordings, and support

You’ll receive home exercises between sessions and optional virtual sessions if you’re outside the GTA.

Safety First: Protecting Vocal Health

Our SLPs are specially trained to help you explore new voice patterns without strain or damage. We teach proper breath support, posture, and vocal care to help you speak confidently and sustainably.

If you’re also considering vocal surgery, we can work pre- and post-operatively to support recovery and results.
